Our Mission

Lake Wanaka

Our club, originally Wanaka Ski Club, was formed in 1979 to foster the enjoyment and skills of skiing in all it’s forms, promote good fellowship and develop on snow skills on the mountains of Wanaka.

Little has changed except snowboarding and the expansion of the club’s name. Interestingly, the original objectives of the club mention ski jumping, ski touring, ski mountaineering, exploration and ski running generally.

Over the years the club has assisted many families to make new friends, develop wonderful snowsport skills, learn to love and respect the mountains and their snow and assist them to enable their children to travel to the Northern Hemisphere to train and compete.

We have had club members compete and achieve at all levels of snow sports from junior events through to Olympic and World Championships.

The social side which the original 1979 members hoped to foster has continued to develop and now includes weekly Friday evenings in winter and regular social missions to other snowsports areas.

The club raises funds through various events and fundraising activities and distribute funds annually to it’s young athletes.

We encourage our young members to take lessons in their chosen discipline and really develop their skills.
