Athlete Presentation Night 2011
“Welcome to Winter 2011” our athlete presentation night, was an “eye opener” for the new members and visitors who attended on 15th July @ Albert Town Tavern.
Our club had distributed $18 000 between 22 athletes for Northern Hemisphere training 2010-11.This money was raised by members volunteering their time in many ways. All grant recipients are required to assist with fund raising in some form.
The grant recipient athletes are also required to describe how their money was used. Many athletes who received grants ranging from senior athlete Becky Sinclair who gained 4th place at the World Snowboard Champs to Jackson Wells who won the Kombi at Whistler Cup Children’s Race proved the club was certainly very well reimbursed. The crowd watched as athletes tumbled on tramps, trained on alpine piste courses, pipes or parks across the northern hemisphere, broke bones training, rehabbed bravely, mastered the unknown out of bounds territory, represented NZ in different teams, discovered new countries and nationalities while always striving for the heights of their discipline. Even the youngest of athletes was inspiring.
Senior members commented that each year the club achieves better results.
Congratulations to all presenters from the entire club

Brent & Lane Henry – Switzerland
Brent and Lane Henry were born in New York City, but have lived half their lives in NZ and half in NY. They are “Kiwi Americans”! They have a passport for each country. So far, they’ve only raced “for New Zealand” and have spent their entire ski careers only with HPC and Ski Connect—pretty kiwi. Additionally, they got on skis for the first time only 2 years ago (2009)—they’d never skied before July 2009, this is their 2nd race year—2010 was their first.
