GRSSROOTS GRANT
WSC’s Grassroots award is for WSC members who are Primary and Intermediate School children [School Year 2-Year 8 inclusive]. It is to assist families to enter their children into snow sports development programmes in the Wanaka area.
Snow sports programmes improve children's alpine skiing techniques, develop freeski /snowboard park and pipe skills, develop cross country skiing techniques and encourage safe development of freeriding techniques.
We request our previous recipients attend WSC events at Après during the season to inspire and encourage our current recipients with their footage and stories.
Grassroots grants are paid directly to Cardrona/Treble Cone or Snowfarm, our local Wanaka snow sports development program providers.
It is important that all applicants read and understand the current Grassroots Policy, especially the volunteer roles and applicants’ requirements prior to applying.
The club has distributed $176,000 dollars to primary school aged children through the Grassroots programme since the programmes initiation with five children in 2013.
Numerous WSC Grassroots children have gone on to represent NZ in the Northern Hemisphere in age group and FIS competitions for alpine race, freeski, freeride and snowboard.
Former Grassroots recipients have gained selection to NZ Teams and Youth Winter Olympic Games teams.
In 2022 and 2026 we celebrated Grassroots recipients being Winter Olympians and achieving invitations to X Games and The Snow League.
Many other less competitive children continue to enjoy snow sports as their favourite winter pastime and some previous Grassroots recipients obtain their ski or board instructors qualifications.
